The Wounded Warrior Project was founded in 2004 by a group of veterans and friends to help injured servicemen and women returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq. Their mission is to provide various forms of support to the wounded aiding in their road to recovery. Their programs focus on four main areas: Mind, Body, Economic Empowerment, and Engagement.
Mind: Provides tools to pursue life goals and overcome the challenges of readjustment and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, without the barriers or stigmas associated with mental or physical health issues with the following programs:
- Family Support
- Stress Recovery Program
- Restore via Connect
- Project Odyssey
Body: Helps warriors achieve independence and pursue an excellent quality of life by maximizing rehabilitation through adaptive sports, health, nutrition, and recreational activities with the following programs:
- Physical Health and Wellness
- Outreach
- Soldier Ride
- WWP Packs
Economic Empowerment: Offers higher education programs, information technology training, and employment assistance services to encourage economic empowerment for warriors to provide long-term financial stability for themselves and their families through the following programs:
- TRACK
- Transition Training Academy (TTA)
- Warriors to Work
Engagement: Utilizes peer mentoring and a strong alumni program to ensure injured service members stay connected with one another and become involved. Additionally, the Policy & Government affairs program ensures injured warriors and their families have a voice in local and national advocacy and legislative issues.
